The two-weight undisputed world champion has not boxed since last July when she beat Amanda Serrano in their trilogy fight at Madison Square Garden. Taylor – who turns 40 in July – is now set to bring one of the most distinguished careers in the history of Irish sport to a close later this year.

“It’s been a long, hard career,” Taylor – who was announced as a new Brooks Running ambassador – told the Irish Independent today.
“I’ve had 20 years at the top of the game basically. It’s been an amazing career, an amazing journey, every single part of it. I’m so grateful. But I always said I would love to end my career here in Ireland, here in Dublin. The support and backing of people in this country has been absolutely second to none. It’s been phenomenal.
“They came on this journey with me every step of the way, the highs and lows of it, and I’m so grateful for that. And I’d love to give them a final night here in Dublin.”
While attempts have failed in the past for Taylor to perform at Croke Park, she hasn’t given up the fight that her last dance could take place there.
“I think it’s going to be in July/August, sometime. We’re still trying to work out all the details; who it’s going to be against, the date, the venue, everything has to be worked out and planned. Obviously, still pushing for that Croke Park fight. I’m not sure if it’s going to happen or not, but that would be a dream for me.
“We’re having conversations over the last few weeks, and we’ve had conversations before with them, but we’re going to see what happens. But if not, there’s obviously other options out there as well, but I think it will be the icing on the cake for me to end my career in Croke Park, our biggest, most iconic venue. How special would that be? But if it doesn’t happen, regardless of where it is, it’s going to be an amazing celebration.
“I understand from [Croke Park/GAA] perspective as well, they have a lot going on, there’s lots to work out there. But yeah, just please let me have that fight in Croke Park!”
